Reflecting on a Legendary Career

Imamura's illustrious career spans over three decades, during which he played a pivotal role in shaping some of Nintendo's most beloved franchises. Despite his modesty about his artistic abilities, Imamura's designs have left an indelible mark on the gaming world. Characters like Fox McCloud and Captain Falcon, along with games such as F-Zero and Star Fox, are testaments to his creative genius. His departure from Nintendo in early 2021 was marked by a quiet exit due to the pandemic, far from the grand farewell he deserved. Yet, this transition paved the way for a fresh start with Omega 6.

The journey that led Imamura to create Omega 6 began when he took up teaching at the University of Technology in Osaka. During his breaks, he started sketching what would become the manga for Omega 6. This personal project eventually evolved into a full-fledged narrative adventure game, developed in collaboration with indie studios Happymeal and Pleocene. As the story and art director, Imamura found himself revisiting the simpler, more intimate development processes reminiscent of his early days at Nintendo. The result is a game that feels like a throwback to the Super Famicom era, yet it carries the depth and nuance of contemporary visual novels.

Omega 6: The Triangle Stars represents Imamura's desire to return to the roots of game development, where smaller teams and simpler mechanics allowed for greater creative freedom. At Gamescom, players had the opportunity to experience the English language build of Omega 6, set for release on February 28, 2025.
